For the first time in the German auto maker history, Audi Sport will launch in the fall of 2009 a racing variant of the R8 model, which will be produced in collaboration with factories from Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm in Germany and Gyor in Hungary.
Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, director of Audi Motorsport department, stated: "R8 Audi is the first model that deserves to become a excellence racing car. According to the GT3 rules, the race variant, Audi R8 comes with a rear traction and the engine power of 500 horses is transmitted to the tyres through a sport speed box sequential in six steps. Known under the code name "R16", Audi R8 Race Version is developed under the supervision of Audi Sport department and the first tests on track will take place in the competitive season next year, while deliveries to customers will be honored since the fall of 2009.
