The oil crisis led to the motto industry flourishing: increases in sales began immediately to sale. The UK market is one of the most flexible from Europe, adapting immediately to the occurring changes. In July the number of motorcycles entered into circulation increased by 22% compared with a year ago, in contrast to the auto market which has fallen by 13%.
The highest growth was recorded as one would expect from economic models, with 35% for those up to 50 cmc, and 31% for motor categories by 125 cmc. All the scooters grew with 27, respectively 34.5%. Decreases were recorded only in enduro chapter, 7.9%.
